shock length

shock length
is there a guideline for measuring for shocks? just put rear springs with a couple of leaves from a cj under my 85 4runner and need some shocks. the factory shocks come no where close to fitting.

Find somewhere that will flex the truck (maybe you can do it by putting it on jackstands, which I've done before).
Disconnect the shocks and stuff one end of the axle fully, droop the other end fully.
Measure the distance between the shock mounting points.
You now have the compressed and extended length of the shock that you need.

I suggest that if you aren't going to go with Bilsteins, check out Doetsch Tech Shocks. I bought 4 Doetsch Tech DT3000's, 12" travel for $150. Not a bad price and one hell of a shock!

that seems easy enough, I have a tow motor at work I can use. 4crawler, I noticed that you are running 33x10.50 on your 4runner. would you recomend this size of tire or maybe go a liitle larger. I was thinking maybe 35x14x15's, we have alot of red clay hills and mud but very few rocks. going to run dual t-cases with 4.10's untill I can afford to regear with 5.29's. trail truck only, not worried about the street. will duals and 4.10's be able to spin the tires enough to clean the treads?
