shifting problems

my 96 T100 will not shift when cold and when it does shift it shifts at 5000rpm i replaced the ect sensor already need help asap

If it's like my 4runner, it will not shift normally when the engine is not up to temp. O/D won't work at all on mine and it won't go into 3rd till ~3K rpm. 5K is high tho to shift from 1st to 2nd. Does it shift normally when the truck is warmed up?

check your tranny fluid, it might be low? it should be a pink color.

What does your owners manual say about this?


As far as I know, AT Toyota's do not shift into OD unless the engine is warm. Which is even harder to do when you're jamming cold air under the hood.

You want to kill your AT prematurely? Fire it up and drive off every cold morning for all I care.

Some mechanic and his family somewhere will be glad you did.
