I am going to do a solid axle swap on my '89 4Runner with a 22RE. I plan on purchasing one of the kits offered by Trail-Gear (3 in front, 4 in rear), All-Pro or Marlin (4 in front, 5 in rear). I would like to keep the 4Runner as low as possible, and run 35" tires with no trimming or body lift. I'm looking for information about the 3 vendors' kits regarding the following criteria:

-Cost vs. Quality
-Actual lift height
-Offroad articulation (rockcrawler)
-On-road ride quality/stability

Please post up with any experience you may have with these kits. I want it done right the first time. PLEASE no vendor bashing...

Thank you. I still can't get a good feel for the quality of the products. Everyone says something different. Nor can I figure out the lift height, since everyone says "too tall"! Maybe I should have a vote? If you were going with my set-up (low, 35s, no cutting) and money was not an issue, what would you do?

 

I had all the same questions when I did mine in July,,,, I found all the answers by reading the sas section from start to finish, several times over again,,, it is all in there,,,,,, I have a feeling if the first time everyone said something different it will be the same the second time

 

go with a 4inch from the three you listed should give you enough room for 35s

 

Trail-Gear"s 3/4 is the same as All-Pro and Marlin's 4/5.

They are all pretty much the same kit. You will get more products with the TG kit and its less expensive with Free shipping.

With the TG kit you will get an axle truss, bump stops, diff armor, knuckle rebuild kit, and some other small parts that neither All-Pro or Marlin come with. Other than that, they are all good kits.

I have a 4" front 5" rear TG kit and it is very nice quality I say if you go with SCOTTYC you are gonna probably get your best deal from the sounds of it and for the record I have the 5150 shocks and it rides as good as my other one with a 4" I.F.S. bracket lift if not better and both have 35's the s.a.s. set up has enough room for at least 37's no problem.

 

Thanks everyone. The last two posts are what I was looking for...info on ride quality, lift height, etc. Pictures are always appreciated, too. I actually called and talked to ScottyC at Addicted Offroad a couple of weeks ago. He seems like a great guy who will stand by his products and installation. He's "local" to me, too, so as soon as I gather my parts and enough money I'll probably have him do the installation. I just want to do all this at once (SAS, gears, Longfields, lockers, etc.) so it's a fair chunk of change. It should be worth it, though. My '89 is in great shape and I want to do it right. Thanks for everyone's input.
