Question Replacing float in carb?

So, I think I may need to either replace or adjust my float. Float bowl is filling up to the top as soon as I start the truck. How do I go about getting to the float? The 2 manuals I have don't tell you how to get to it, just how to replace it.

The carb will need to be removed and separated. You might as well rebuild the entire carb. Buy a good kit, do some research, get a muffin tin for all the little parts, take pictures.

Here is a very good page.

I was really hoping not to have to rebuild because I've heard so many mixed things about rebuilding. Some people are saying it's hard, others are say it's easy. I do have a spare thats no good and thought about ripping into that one to get an idea of everything.

if the truck is flooding and the float is just stuck you can clamp the fuel line shut, were it goes into the carb .then start the motor and run the fuel out of the carb.and then tap on the carb around the float area this will hopefully unstick the float. if it works unclamp the fuel line and try running it. i would add a good carb cleaner to the gas to clean things out.

Well, I started diving into the spare carb and not too far into it I said screw it. There are too many small pieces that I don't want to get into so I decided to have someone else rebuild it. First place quoted me $450! Second was $200. Third guy $150 with over 30 years in the field. Dropped it off last Friday and should have it either this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Can't wait.

all i would have needed was a float. i had one do that on an old ford. they will seep a little gas into the float and wiegh it down. sense you had a spare you should have at least tried to finish it. sounds like either way you would have had to pay that repair bill. but might have got it right the first time and saved some money.
