Knock sensor for sure. It'll go bad exactly 5 minutes after you're done with the head job if you don't.

Is it possible to just pull the sensor and clean it then put it back. And if so what can I clean it with.? Doesnt seem like a part that would wear out.

I believe the internals go bad and the resistance changes on the sensor and you're hosed - similar to how a coolant temp sensor will go bad. For the ultra huge hassle of having to change it when the engine is all buttoned up it's probably better to replace.

okay, so after a few headaches i have the truck back together. i replaced the left head, both head gaskets, along with exhaust intake plenum and a few other seals and gaskets. it runs a little bit better but is still way under powered. it seems to run a little on the hot side. the temp guage ranges from yhe middle to almost the "h" . it can barely get up to 55. what else do i do?

High temps could be a number of things...have you checked for codes since the reassembly?

If you find out let me know. Mine has less torque than a 22re. New water temp sensor (broken off) and o2, 4.30 gear; and now on to the next issue. Oh and I get 13/14mpg.

I am definately going to a 4banger when this one blows.
