Question rebuild or swap?

ive got a 98 tacoma 4x4 extended cab with a 3.4 v6 in it. a rod bearing just started knockin and im considering a rebuild or an easy swap. i want to have about 230+ hp. can i get that out of a rebuild? ive heard that the 3.4s are just bored out 3.0s and if thats true then i obviously cant do to much on the rebuild. thanks guys

If you do a swap, what engine will you go with? You could either rebuild and add a s/c, or find a replacement engine that already has one. Not sure on hp rating with s/c.

3.4 is a different beast. Your not going to get 230 naturally aspirated from a 3.4

Personally....Id find another 3.4 and swap it in. Quicker...cheaper...and far less headache than a rebuild or oddball motor swap.

Keep it simple.

I agree you are better off staying with a more stock set up. ITs much easier to find parts later and depending where you live, smog laws get tough with crazy swaps.

Neither. Find a replacement used 5VZFE motor. Most likely cheaper than the rebuild. Then get the Supercharger and the URD 7th injector kit. You can find 5VZFE (3.4) longblocks on eBay or do a search via google/yahoo.

The stock 3.4 is rated at 190, with the supercharger 260 and with the S/C and the URD 7th kit you can probably get closer to 280 or more with a proper tune.

This will start adding up, probably around 5k by the time the smoke clears.
