Key ignition problem
Hey all. I know and have read all the key lock cylinder problems here and havent found mine so here is what happened. My lock cylinder went out and got stuck in off. So I went and bought a new cylinder lock and pulled other out. I had to do if forcefully due to the lock cylinder not allowing me to switch it to ACC. So it took me an hour to pull the son biznatch out. Finally with it out I slide the new one in and to my surprise it doesnt work. So when I turn the key it feels as though it is floating like it felt when it was just the part alone and not installed. There is no clicking as you turn it besides a soft click caused by the cylinder its self. It feels dead instead of the strong like feeling as when you turn the key of any normal cars. Did something else break? The key turning does not do anything at all, not accessories, the 2 dot thing or start it. The steering wheel is now free though. The truck does have remote start but that also no longer works? Is it the ignition switch? If so, is the switch the thing that the cylinder lock goes into?? Thank you ahead of time!!!!

Thanks for the response guys. Get this poo poo thou!! Ok I took the ignition switch off and pulled the cylinder lock. Inside there is a little mechanism. I have no idea what it is called or whatever. It has a flat head in the front and rear, so its an all male part to conjoin the switch and cylinder lock. That piece was busted. Sweet!! Went to yoda jims and found all I needed for 20 bucks. I put it all together and guess what it works!!!! O man, but wait..... Now the steering wheel lock is opposite!!! When key is in off position it is unlocked and when put into ACC all the way to start the wheel is locked!??!?! What the!? The components are all for sure 100000% positive exact as the previous. What mech controls the steer lock? Where is it engaged and disengaged?? If not can I just rip the lock plate out and be free? O and it has remote start and that now too no long works

Ok sweet!!!! Problem solved. That piece inside I was talking about needed a little extra help to be moved in the correct position. I had to tinker and strip like 5 times but I have finally got it. If any one needs help with this specific problem or anything to do with the tumbler ignition switch housing, cylinder, switch or those related components pm me. I have taken it apart and drawn it out to come up with ways how it works and now know exactly how it works!!! Sadly I now know how to start the car at will and it scares me the simplicity of it

My dad always told me that if you have a really heavy set of keys...it will wear your ignition swithes out quicker. I try and keep my keys trimmed down to the minimum....
I got a catchy ignition on the 87....gonna fix it someday...
