Planning on using my 97 4Runner to tow a Casita RV

Hello Everyone,

I have a question regarding the towing capability of the 4Runner.
I have 218K on my 1997 4Runner. I've kept up with maintenance and oil change. No problems what so ever since I've had it brand new.

The wife and I would like to get a camper trailer (Casita Spirit) and I was wondering if the old 4Runner will hold up. I believe the weight of the Casita would be in the 2500-3000 lbs range.

Also, when do I know when I finally need my engine to be rebuilt?

Thanks again. I've been away from this forum since 2006.

I think thats pushing it. I would try and "practice tow"
it first.

I tow a small boat with our 99 runner. Its about 1400lbs. It does pretty good with that...but doubling that would worry me.

Does the camper have trailer brakes?

I think power wise...you could get it going ok....long as you were not in mountains and such...its the slowing it down safely I would worry about. Got good brakes?

I assume you have a good hitch.
