Rear Ended a FORD...

Well last night arounf 7:30 i was driving around some little side streets

heading to my buddys house. just about every side street is covered in ice

because of the storm that we had the other night/day. So me knowing this i

try to keep my speeds under 10 and around 5.

I was ablock away from my friends house when i put the truck into neutral

so i could cruise to a stop for the stop sign ahead. There was also a '04 F-

150 sitting at the stop sign at that moment so i continued to coast at very

slow speeds getting ready to stop. The truck must have been at the stop

sign for a good 3-5 seconds before i came within 30 feet of him and realized

he wasnt going to move. Now i am moving at speeds under 5mph and touch

the breaks to find out that there was nothing that i could do to stop in time,

even going as slow as i was.

So, seeing every thing happening before me, i simply said "aww wtf?".

Afterwards, we got out real quick to look at our damages. The F150 only had

a fist sized dent in the chrome bumper and the little piece of plastic used for

grip ontop of the bumper was cracked.

Luckily my truck recieved no damage at all...

So basically what im trying to get at is:
1.) How will insurance go about this since he wanted a police report made? , Will i have to end up paying for his whole new bumper eventhough it is 100% fixable?

2.) will it be worth just paying him cash for the damages instead of relying on state farm and having my payments go up? and is this possible to do since the insurance probably knows about it already? (we both have state farm)

This is just making me mad because i dont want to go up to my agent tomorrow and end up getting ripped off bc i dont know what to do.
So any help or advice or kind words will be nice! THANK YOU ALL!!

i had a similar accident exept i was in the ford and i was going around a corner at 5mph and dented a quarter panel on a van but my insurance didn't go up. They said the ice conditions were at fault and so that did not make me liable so my insurance did not increase and it did not show up on my record.

yeah, it really is. if they wont look at it as a real "accident" where neither driver was at fault and make my rates go up i will probably pay out of my pocket( i will probably end up paying the ins. a few hundred extra within a few years anyway.) I just hope my insurance looks at it as YC55s did.

What insurance did you have at the time of your accident, YC55?

Since he is most likely going to report it, your insurance co. will not be happy if you don't.
