Quick belt question

Is there any break in for a new belt? Just put new alt/WP and ps belts on, so I was wondering when I should go back and re check the tension. 1986 22re FYI.

Its always a good idea to go back and check belt tension. After you replace it I would take it for a 10-15 minute drive then check tension. Then again after about a week. I like to check at every oil change. Better safe than sorry. Its more or less just my preference.

Never hurts to check the belt tension after some miles. I tend to take a look under the hood every few weeks or so anyhow.

The belt won't typically stretch that fast, so if the tension is good when you first put it on, checking it every oil change when you should be taking the time to check everything anyway, should be fine.

Thanks guys! I had just put a new alt/WP belt on when I first did the timing chain job, and I started getting a non-bearing chirp after a few days, as well as I noticed that my voltage would drop at idle, but be fine at load. I knew it probably just needed to be re-tensioned, but I neglected it. This morning the belt broke on me on my way to work... lesson learned. I'll check it again in the morning before I leave to go to work, and before I head home.
