Problem NEED HELP truck keeps dieing out

Hello All I am new to the forum but after many searches have not found what I need help with.

I just purchased a 1988 4-Runner. My First Toyota and am STOKED. After driving for a couple of weeks and putting about 500 miles on it it started to randomly die while driving (No check engine light) after reading some forums I was thinking it was the fuel filter clogged up. Just replaced it today Thank you for all your posts on how to change it out what a pain. I relocated the filter to the inside of the engine bay on the passenger side fender. changed the oil and bolted everything up. Started the car and it ran fine for about 25 sec and then acted like it was starved for fuel. Did the same thing time and time again.

Any Advice?

My 88 has a 22RE 4cyl 4 wheel drive

Did you leave the fuel pump test jumper in place while running? If not, try that. And when it dies, is there still power to the fuel pump?

Does it start right back up? Or does it start right away after dying?

Some basic things to check regard air in and air out. I know a bad/dirty air filter will cause this, so will a clogged cat although it has to be REALLY clogged up.

to awnser posted questions

The cat has been gutted and welded back up that is not the prob. I will check the air filter in the AM but it has a K&N drop in but I will give it a clean and see what we got.

As far as starting. it dies out and I can start it right back up no prob then it dies again.

Thanks for helping will get this I know it.

Thank you to all but Im a dumb ass

Thanks everyone that posted but I did the stupid thing and should have just checked over all of my connections before throwing parts at this thing.

I was messing with some of the stuff 4 crawler suggested and the ECM plug on top of the air box just fell out of place. As soon as I plugged it in correctly no problems. I felt like a dumb ass but fixed my problem.

Now though my temp gauge is not registering going to check the fuse's in the morning but its blowing heat any suggestions.

Thanks again to all.
