power questions

I am fairly new to car modifications and I am currently looking at wiring some different lights to my 1996 4runner limited. The lights say they need to be wired to the battery or a 12v power source. Will I need a new alternator or a capacitor? I plan on putting a better sound system and a PA. speaker as well which will need power and I dont want to be stranded somewhere because they suck all the life out of my battery. Any suggestions on what to do and where I can go to do it?

well i have a cb/pa a cd player 10 inch sub 500 watt amp 2 6x9s 5 kc daylighters in my yota i had to use a chevy 90 amp cuz of my 350 swap im not sure what your alternator is but you should be ok as long as you dont get to crazy with things you dont have to run everything directly to the battery all you have to have a 12v source so any power wire will work just splice them and use toggel switches with a fuseable link and the radio should be self explanitory if you need help id say best buy or any local radio shop can install that if your worried go buy an optima battery and a bigger alternator as far as tires go i would say probly 31s maybe 33s depending on how much clearance you have stock not sure on runners

If you plan on adding off road lights and a sound system to your 4Runner, then your stock alternator is going to be hard pressed to keep up with the power demands. Your going to need a higher output alternator than stock to run everything, or you will end up stranded on the side of the road.

i build alt and starters for alot of diff yotas i personally still have the stock 70amp and i run a 500watt amp 2 kc lights and have no issues. as for the optima battery i HIGHLY recomend that you dont use one because they are the death of more alternators than any sound system and lights combined they are to be trickle charged where as the alt on your runner is considered a high output alt and will cook itself tryin to charge the battery.
