Poor fuel economy on 87 pu 2wd

Hi all I've got an 87 2wd pickup. Wasin a significant wreck almost 2 years ago. Practically no maintenance done on it that I can tell other than air filter and oil changes. Replaced a lot of things including a new complete front clip from a puck n pull.

On to my issues. Bad economy is accompanied by being hard to start( thanks in part to timing issues and choke isn't hooked up. Where is it supposed to go to?) mild to severe afterfiring, no balls in 3rd thru 5th. Third and fourth are ok on flats if you're already wound up and accelerating. Got a carb kit from oreillys. I'm averaging 10mpg on 235/75-15.

Which are rubbing on passenger side. My dog is the only passenger that doesn't endanger my wiring harness(need to wire it up out if the way) from top of rim to top of fender on driver is 17 1/2" passenger is 16" torsions appear to be cranked already. Am debating on what brand tb I should get, assuming I do need to replace them. Leaning towards ome. I also am going to build a hd bumper. Living in central Texas. We have roaming land mines that are attracted to headlights. Haha.

Not sure the retard/advance diaphragm on the distributor is working. How is that checked? Oreillys quoted me like $160. So I need to be sure I need it.

Thanks for any and all advice and yes I did search on all of this first lot of good info on here. Although the tech and stickies are kinda hard to use. IMO

Well there could be a million things wrong with the truck.... As far as retard and advance diaphragm.... You are talking about the vacuum advance right..... That shouldn't be a huge factor... Check timing first then go from there

Tried go set the timing. The mark on the crank pulley was about 3/4" to the left of the marks on the engine. I set it to where my manual said to and it had better acceleration and less afterfiring but when I turned it off and let it cool off. It wouldn't start

I've changed the plugs and wires.

I really need help with the choke right now though I think that will solve a good portion of the engine issues. Where's the other side of its vacuum line supposed to plug to? I've got some blocked off and others hooked up but no extra lines. A photo would be really helpful for this. If anyone would be so kind

It's very simple.... Engine needs just a few things to run good.... Good air supply.... Good spark.... Plenty O fuel.... And good compression.... Start ur tree at each one of those and work down till u find the problem

When my timing chain jumped the sprocket it gave the appearance of being timed right, but it was far from correct.

I think my issues are with correct air/fuel. I'm getting both just not the right mix I think and probably at the wrong time. How do I check the timing chain? Someone local suggested it might have jumped.
