Newb Help. v6 and 4cyl spider gears?

I couldn't seem to find an answer to this anywhere. Are the spider gears interchangable from a v6 rear and a 4cyl rear. Im thinkin of welding one then having the other to switch out when needed. If they were interchangeable that would be sweet. Also are spools the same for 4cyl and v6? I no that ring and pinions def are not lol.
Thanks

No they are not. V6 uses 4 spiders gears (aka 4pinion) 4cyl uses 2 spider gears (aka 2pinion)

Spools are not the same. THe 4Cyl are easy to weld, and it can be done without removing the spider carrier. The V6 is a little more complicated. I have not seen anyone weld that before, since it uses an enclosed carrier.

You would have to take the diff apart, and open the gear case just to get access to the spider gears. You are better off getting a 4cyl and welding it, or buying a spool.

I think i will go wit spool. You don't have to reset any gears or whatever to install one right? It seems to be the best route to go.

If you do not know how to install gears, have a shop to it. You will have to set up the diff to have it done correctly. Talk to Zuk on here, i hear he is the best of the best.

I have the diff and it has 4.56 gears installed already so i didn't know if you had to re set gears when installin a spool or not.

Ooo. sry I get it now cause the spool replaces the carrier where as a lunchbox locker like powertraxx doesn't. I think i may just go with a poertraxx.
Thanks

Spool or lunchbox, there will be some setup required. Either way the ring gear needs to come off.

Lunchboxes are for school kids.

Nice.

If you ever plan on going with big tires don't use a lunchbox. Get a spool, Detroit, or selectable unit.

I plan on running a skinny 33 (9.5 or 10.5) with my 4.56 v6 gears and wanted to lock the back. I like spool because it is predictable. I don't realy care about tire wear but i do not want to snap any axles or anything. I wheel in snow and mud a lot and some minor technical stuff. Mainly mud and snow

Spools are definitly fun in the snow. I run a spool in the rear and will never go back, and I have yet to break a rear axle.
