New To Yotatech

Hey,

My name is Brian and i'm looking to buy a late 80's Toyota 4Runner. i'm not completely new to Toyota SUV's as i used to own an 01' Rav4. I found a 1986 4Runner for $500. It has 244K on it and has a current inspection. Everything on it works and it runs fine. Do you guys think it's a decent truck to buy? My budget is kind of low ($600 max) so there aren't tons of options. Here is the link. http://allentown.craigslist.org/cto/1688127812.html Oh i'm from Easton PA by the way. The reason i need a beater is to keep my turboed 03' Tiburon GT in good shape.

I'm looking forward to being a part of this community!

-Brian

and yes i know how to search

I'd say do it. If there is frame rust, wouldn't it fail inspection?

at least in my area just because a garage put an inspection sticker on something doesn't necessarily mean they actually inspected it

That's what i figured, of course i'm going to look it over really well. Is the 86' one of the 4Runners that has the removable back to make it like a pickup? From the pics it looks like it does but i thought 1985 was the last year they did that.

In PA you will fail if you have frame rust or a cel and they do a smog test. They are fairly strict here. With that being said, I just take my Tiburon to a shop, pay them $20 and i'm inspected. So it may not be a legit inspection. Regardless, i'll make sure to check it out thoroughly. And i'm glad that the 86' has the removable top. I'm looking forward to checking this out, I would never have considered a 4Runner for a vehicle had i not stumbled upon that craigslist ad.

To be specific, 4runners had removable tops up until 1990 I believe. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
