New guy needs some help
hey guys. i got some issues with my yota, but seein how i usually work on cummins, i'm not sure what to check. I bought it with 30k on a rebuild. when i first picked it up, it would cruise 90 down the freeway no problem. then it would only do 80, then 75, now i'm struggling to do 70. its got new plugs in it, and i'm not sure where to start checkin. any helps appreciated.

fuel filters? had a bronco that would do the same thing if you "distrurbed all the $*^% in the tank" just keep on gettin slower...and when you post try n explain what the prob is in the thread description

Man, there are so many things it could be. We don't even know what kind of truck you have. Engine and tranny type? Did you replace the wires with the plugs? Oem plugs and wires? Clean the throttle body? IAC? MAF sensor? Air filter? Was the engine rebuilt entirely or does the block have all original miles on it?

check your ignition timing, should be a minumum of 12 degrees adavnced. As well as the throttle linkage to make sure your opening the carb. up the whole way. A compression test will let you know if there is a bigger a problem. If nothing else a Weber carb. really simplifies under the hood and give a nice horsepower boost.

well. with my carb and a couple of others, the AAP really doesent make a diff if its hooked up or not..the choke makes a HUGE difference when its cold tho...my choke wasnt hooked up and first start it would run like crap and wouldnt really rev without spuddering...took her apart (rebuilt it while i was at it) and fixed the choke, 1000000 times better, also you have to push the gas pedal to the floor b4 u start it to close the choke all the way...so does it run fine when warm or are you saying its just getting slower since youve owned it??

thanks for all the replies. its just getting slower. like around town seems to be alright, but as soon as i hop on the freeway to go to school, it won't hold any speed. i bought a fuel filter today, cause i figured it wouldn't hurt in any case. where is it on the truck? i've looked all over and can't seem to find it?

fuel filter is tucked under the bed right by the tank. stick your head under the front passenger side of the bed and look at the frame mounts. the filter is held in a small bracket attached to front side of one.
