86 22re won't stay running

Im in tucson az and Need to get my 86 pickup fixed need good shop or mechanic to get it back up and going. 22re (EFI)head gasket blew so took the head off and into a shop rebuilt it and new timing set now its basically back together (no belts fan or radiator on at the moment) but won't stay running on its own but will if it gets sprayed with staring fluid to stay running no back fires or sputters while it is running. New tps fuel pump pressure reg and dampener 6months before it broke down. Afm has been checked and is good working condition. Any help would be great!

If you try and hold the throttle part way running will it run? 86 has 29 years on it. Is it possible your injectors didn't get plugged up during the R&R. Is you efi fuse good? Have you cranked on it without starter fluid and the pulled the plugs to see if they have raw fuel on them? The afm is fully plugged in right? Just throwing guesses out. Very frustrating situation. Good luck

They wont stay running unless the air intake hose is hooked up going to the airbox and the afm. If you are spraying it, makes me think thats not hooked up.

Or you have a really big gap in the intake manifold where the upper & lower portions meet. Or you EGR valve is stuck open. It was running before the head came off, so look for some silly installation errors. Either way you are getting un-metered air into the engine. Did you hook up all the hoses?

If the vacuum line to the Fuel Pressure Regulator is connected wrong that will give issues. Sounds like you dont have all your air leaks sealed or vacuum lines connected correctly.
