Need info on v6/turbo diffs/gears
I'm in the process of building a street/strip std cab short bed pickup. It's got an lt1 sbc and 4l60e trans. Originally it had a 7.5" rear but I swapped it over to an 8" 4cyl 3.07 rear (which I was originally told was a v6 one, until I did some research). Now I've decided to bump up to the v6/turbo third member and I picked up a supra lsd diff today at pick n pull. I haven't been able to find a 4-pinion third yet but I was hoping for a little info from you guys.
I'm looking for info on what bodystyle and engine/trans combo would come equipped with something between 3.70 and 4.10 gears. I originally thought I was going to be able to use the diff from a 2wd auto v6 4runner but from what I've seen/heard theyre all 2 pinion diffs.
Can anybody point me in the right direction?

As tempting as it is to do the research for you...I won't.
Go to car-part.com and try searching for various models and years of 86-95 PU/4Runner/T100 4x4 rear axles/carriers/differentials and supra differentials/carriers. Choose through the V6/turbo equipped 4x4's to get the 4-pinion diff and gearing you want. OR... I'm pretty sure, though not 100%(not my specialty), that turbo supra's later than 85 will also have the 4-pinion diff with or without LS.

Yeah. I've done a little browsing on there. I picked up a supra diff today at pnp, but just for the lsd. Obviously the third doesnt bolt into my axle housing. It's got 4.30 gears which are a little low for me. What I'm hoping to do is get the v6 third and just swap in the lsd to avoid having to do the pinion. Tryin to keep it as budget friendly as possible.

moved your thread to newbie tech.
Please make an effort to search in the future.

Well..I'll take the 4.30's. I can use them for spares for mine. Trade me for this?
My spare 8" 4-pinion 3rd minus ring & pinion.

I would trade it or sell it to ya though...but your probably not anywhere near NW Oregon anyways, right?
I guess you don't want the entire rear axle assembly but what they call differentials/carriers on car-part are actually 3rd's. Not sure about what you mean by pinion. You have just the 43 tooth ring gear on a LSD 8" carrier? No pinion? Or the entire 3rd ring & pinion too, but it's a 8" 2-pinion diff? Or is it a 7.5" LSD. I'm confused...why wont it bolt up to your axle? And what would? Is it the 2wd 7.5" axle? Or a 4wd rear axle?

I have an 8" axle but it's a 4cyl diff. I bought the third member from a supra for the LSD carrier itself. The housing doesn't come apart like our axles do but they share internals. So what I need now is a 4-pinion third to fit the supra LSD and with more sutible gears. The trucks got a small block so I wanna strengthen the rear.

O.k., got it.
So, as far as a 4-pinion 3rd., I'm pretty sure 4.10's are as high as your gonna find. Should be alot of those around. That's by far the most common gear ratio.
No luck on car-part.com? Geez...I can't hardly imagine it. I get pages full of 'em when I look for 'em in my area(Portland, OR). Best results found searching for the axle assembly rear(w. housing)for a 91 Toyota Truck(except T100 & Tundra).
You'll pay just as much or more for just the 3rd. So you may as well get the whole axle and have some spare parts. There's one near me, 34 miles away, for $200 with 4.10's.

3.73s are most desirable with the a4 from a camaro... why not go to the t56, much better tranny
either way id just pickup a v6 rear off cl for $200 (more than 1/2 will have 4.10s) and just swap in the LSD
... whats done to the LT1?

3.73s are good in a camaro but I'm running a 28" tall tire (275/60/15) in the rear rather than like 26" that comes stock on a camaro. I may switch to something like that depending on how it runs with 4.10s. The motor is basically stock internal wise. CAI, ported tb and intake, msd, headers, a little tune. Keep in mind this is in CA so it's going to have to take a trip to the referee to get approved. That's why I've kept it on the stock side for now.
So from what I've gathered I need a v6 pickup third? Does the trans matter or is the 4.10 gearing used with both?
