Motor Swap Converting a 3.4 L to a 3.0L

Hey all,
I recently acquired two T100s one is a 97 3.5L 6 cylinder auto. the other is a 94 3.0 L 6 cylinder auto with a rotten frame, a parts truck. This is my first Toy.
The head gasket is blown and the cooling system failed on the 97. I'd like to swap in the 3.0L while I overhaul the 3.5L.
Has anyone done this before? anyone know of any parts id need to buy in order to make the conversion? I'm moving soon and want to get this truck back up and running in time to do so. any tips would be much appreciated.

Just back words of the normal direction

Being this is a T100 all bets are off

Swap the engine harness with ECM Merge truck Harness to the new ECM .

In your case it might just be repinning the one plug

Are you sure they are Both T100 Trucks ??

If you changed engine, trans, wire harness and ecu.

Doubt it if anyone has done this for obvious reasons.

Most common swap is the 3.4 for the 3.0, you would be going against the norm as the 3.4 is more powerful then the 3.0 and gets better mileage then the 3.0. Others have their reasons for installing the 3.4. Either way it isnt just a motor swap and unlikey you will find part to do the swap you are wanting to do.

Don't waste your time swapping the 3.0 from the 94 into the 97; the 3.4 (not 3.5) is a much better engine, more power and it doesn't have the common head gasket issues that the 3.0s have (though that's a moot point since your 3.4 already has a blown head gasket).

In general, all of the under hood components are swapped side to side between a 3.0 and a 3.4. This means, you'll need to move your battery, air intake, possibly exhaust, charcoal (EVAP) cannister to the opposite sides of the engine bay.

Then there's the wiring, all the electronics are different between the 3.0 and the 3.4. You could swap everything from the 94 over to the 97.

While it certainly is possible it would be a lot of work for an inferior engine and depending on your local state laws, may be illegal (in California, you can't do an engine change (changing from a 3.4 to a 3.0) and use an older motor, you have to use the same year or newer).

In all honesty, either rebuild the 3.4 or buy a long block (either junk yard or re-manufactured) and be done with it; don't waste your time trying to make the 3.0 work in the 97.

any chance you will be parting one out? I am looking for the factory transfer case adapter from an automatic or a whole 5 speed from behind a 3.4 for the proper input shaft lenghth

The Op just wanted to go from 3.4 to 3.0 rebuild the 3.4 then swap back.

To me that is quite alot of extra work doing the first swap then going in and doing the reverse back to what it was.

Some many chances to break or mess things up

In time alone it may be faster to just rebuild the 3.4 or get a used one.
