Lockers?

I have an 89 runner with an auto tranny. I don't have the funds for a locker atm but want to get some suggestions for when i DO have the cash.
Ill prolly just want a rear locker, I'm not going to be mudding or doing extreme rock crawling, just want a little help in getting down NC's rough, muddy and sandy back roads.

A lot of guys on here suggest lockrites or Spartans. Their fairly strong, reliable and work petty well. The downside is they tend chatter and bag on the street when turning, can wear rear tires ad be a handful on slick surfaces like snow and ice.

Personally, I have a truetrac limits slip in the rear of mine. You can't tell there's anything back there most of the time. Very forgiving, especially on snow and ice like we get here in colorado, but still gets the job done when I need it.

Eh, i would prefer an E locker really, a limited slip looks good as well though, ill take a look into the truetrac.
I don't want to limit my cornering abilities with an always locked diff, plus the massive PITA a locked diff is on snow/ice covered roads.

That's the exact reason I went with the truetrac instead of a lunchbox locker. With the snow and ice, I didn't wanna be facing the wrong way on a icy road. The truetrac is about double the price of a spartan, but I thought it was worth it.

I believe you could probably swap an entire e-locker housing into your truck, if you could find one. A couple of guys my brother works with have done it. I think the only thing they ran into was that the parking brake doesn't match up, but otherwise works fine.

After a bit of research, im really starting to like those truetracs. Cheaper than an E locker and also much more passive.
