The misnomer is that at the stage of life that you have money there are things that creep up and its gone (quickly!). House (great investment), retirement (great investment), family (maybe not immediately, but...), 3 month salary emergency cushion, life (food, insurance, taxes, heating/cooling) are all important (and necessary) things to apply your hard earned $$ to.

When you are at that point, you will be amazed how fast that new rear locker falls down (or off) the importance list.

Speaking as someone that has a list of mods that keep falling off to a new roof, new tires for the mini van, or new soccer shoes for the kids (and the list goes on). Do it now when you have the time and money that does not HAVE to go someplace else.

If your father is as mechanical as you say he is, save for a new mod and save the $ on labor and have him help you install (and learn). Mine was not very mechanical, so I learned some hard lessons!

The advise of getting the thing running great is superb advice, DO IT FIRST! You have a fantastic starting point that will last you for a while. If driven right, it will surprise you the placed you can go!

IMO! Get a good set of tires and learn to drive off road. That will reveal to you what you need to do next!

Have fun! I wish I was as smart as you are when I was your age! LOL! Sorry so long!
