Headers and a full exhaust. I would go with magnaflow and a high flow cat from magnaflow as well.

expensive way: flowmaster 40 (sound real good on my 3vze)
illegal way: straight pipe from the downpipe back

If you just cut the end off and let it dump under the truck like some have said, realize that the exhaust might be able to find it's way into the cabin if you cut it at the wrong spot. Also more likely is the water vapor from the exhaust will over time cause rust under the truck.

you could also cut a 4 by 6 inch box in your stock muffler and well it would be louder???

when you have to go get a smog check just have a pice ready with tes screws and some silicon handy....

cheap fix

But it all comes down to how much you want to spend??

had a 18' glass pack on my tacoma, and it was quiet till i got on it, cheap. cut out muffler and weld in. sounded a little throaty but not overwhelming. got a flowmaster 40 on my runner, and alittle money more since they had to bend a pipe for it, alot more throaty even at idle. both trucks had the 3.4L so its a fair comparison. wish i had some headers though!

18in. 2.25. should be a cut with a sawzall, and use the clamps they have in the muffler section. and if you don't have that a hack saw would work, (elbow grease). pretty sure your stock muffler measures out 18'in just to double check pull a tape measure. OH that worked on my tacoma, but my runner had to have an offset, which means yours prob does too, which a pipe has to be bent and might just have a shop do it.

is your stock muffler offset, like center on the motor side, and off to the left or right on the exhaust tip side? cause that will complicate things. i paid two hundred for everything on getting my flowmaster 40-($80), muffler/labor/pipe bent. my tacoma was like a hundred, glasspack($20-50)/labor no pipe bent, which I could have done with a sawzall/clamps. My exhaust does some crazy bends over the rear axle (stock pipe), you could just dump it and weld in a bracket hanger, would be cheaper than paying someone else. just depends on where you go to get a price quote. Thats using my stock pipe, if you do the whole system it will be alot more. WHich you wont need to do if its not rusted out. hope that gets ya started.

Why would you want to do that? Its annoying for everyone who has to hear you. No one is going to think, "Whoa, tough guy going through!", they are simply going to think you don't get enough attention, and infer from that there must be a reason for the lack of attention.

OR they'll think he's got an exhaust....

Hell I run a straight pipe on my 22R, no muffler, no cat, and it shoots out infront of the tire.. I can't stand a quiet vehicle, I wanna hear it when I'm on the gas, my '73 Econoline had side pipes, and my Tacoma's got a Jardine exhaust..

x2, for those of us who appreciate a nice exhaust note, something quiet just won't cut it. I sometimes wish my flowmaster 40 was a little bit louder at idle, but at WOT it sounds amazing. Theres a kid around here who has a last gen mustang with the 4.6 in it, all blacked out, straight pipes, no cat. That thing is LOUD! I love the sound of it too, but something like that I can see being annoying in a quiet neighborhood. Basically, no matter what you do, you're gonna offend someone. Thats life.
