ive never looked at my gears, (recently purchased 4runner) but im positive they are stock. how do i know what i need, to run correctly with 35" tires? and whats the most inexspencive way to go about changing them out? thanks.

this topic is covered DAILY and there is probably a sticky about it.....so search!!!!

but since it is newbie tech...i'll give some insight

you'll want 5.29's for your 7.5" front diff ( specify V6) a master install kit too.

you'll want 5.29's for your 8" rear diff (again..specify V6) and a master install kit.

cheapest way is to do it in your yard/driveway/garage/friends garage/friends yard/parent's house etc.

again..SEARCH and ye shall recieve untold riches of information

That is the cheapest INITIAL way to do it. Setting up gears properly is hard. If they are not done correctly, you will be buying a new set of gears and another instal kit in short order.

You need some specialty tools, and a press. It can be done without a press, but you will hate life after the third reshim on the pinion.

I've done my own, and its possible, but it takes patience, and best if done by someone who knows what they are doing, while you watch, the first time.

 

tis true AxleIke...didn't think about not doing it right the first time....safest thing would be to ship the diffs and gears and install kits to ZUK!!!! lol
