Im trying to replace my head gasket and even though i did it before ive been very sick and my brain doesnt work so good anymore.
Anyone know where the step by step written directions are? i know i printed them before but i dont have the link now.
I hope someone can help. the factory manual sucks as far as directions. I took off the exhaust and part of the intake but now im kinda stuck .

Anyone have the #1piston at TDC with the pulley 180 degrees off? I have to put head back on and to get it right I put the #1piston at tdc but the pulley wheel is wrong. I guess I should ignore the pulley marks??? Thanks

 

The pulley position does'nt have anything to do with what is really going on.

There can be any number of things wrong with the pulley that might cause it to show incorrect crank position.

What is necessary for correct valve timing is that the cam sprocket dot and the crank keys both be @ 12 o'clock.

It is always good practice to back the valve tappet adjusters off as much as possible before setting the head, as well.

It is possible to bend valves on engine assembly if correct cam and crank position are not respected.

Head gasket jobs on the 22r series motors are easy. I help a lot of people do them in addition to doing a lot of them. The biggest obstacle I run into with helping people is the intimidation factor. When people hear "head gasket" they immediately assume it is the end of the world and in the end it will end up in a shop.
The only real issues are stripping the head, setting it to TDC and making absolutely sure you get all the junk (oil, water, crud) out of the head stud holes. The rest is routine, simple and common sense.
I would chose to do head gaskets jobs over timing chain jobs any day of the week!

check your vac diagram on the underside of the hood. Dizzy stabbed correctly? Post up a short vid of it trying to start.

 

Mine would start and die after I just finished my head gasket on a 22re. Check your grounds as well.
