Probably one of the several Vacuum Switching Valves (VSV). See what it connects to to figure out that is does.

thanks guys,
I looked for it and still cant find what the technical name for it is. Ill do some searching and see if I can find it. it might be why the CEL is on. I did the code thing with the wire and got a lot of blinking. I tryed to decipher the code messages but Im not good at morse code. when I get my video OK'ed with you tube Ill post it up to see if anyone can help me on the code guessing game.

Get a photobucket account, upload it to that, then use the link from there to post it here.

Then we can all see it easily.

Ok so I took a look at the ToyoDIY.com website and the parts # listings and diagrams and as near as I can tell that is one of the vacuum switching assemblies. That is my best guess though there I can find no whatever it is shown exactly like that in the diagrams. It seems to be missing some vacuum lines if this is what it is and you do have that line strangely capped off beside it in the pic. Don't quote me on that but it would be a place to start.
Hope this helped a little

If you have A/C, that is for the fast idle when the A/C is on:

Hey 4crawler
that def. looks like the part on his engine but it is missing a lot of bits and pieces... the vacuum line attachments and that black cylinder thingy on the end... looks like a trip to the yard is in your future mud...

The black cylinder thingy is just a little air filter over the vent line. It is a little plastic cap filled with felt that slips over the vent line to let in clean air to let the idle up valve close when not needed. But yes, there should be 3 vacuum line fittings on the VSV, one for incoming vacuum, one for the vent line (that the cap fits over) and one that is the outlet line that hose to whatever the VSV is actuating.

Yeah a trip to the junk yard is comming up soon. thanks for all the help trying to find what that was. I bought the truck last week for $1000 and its in really good shape. I got it legal and have been driving to work and to the hunt camp this week. I work 74 miles away one direction. it runs really good but it has some problems. the major on is the guy I bought it from didnt tell me much about it. He swapped the dash out for a dash from an SR5 so half the gauges dont work. the volt meter aand the temp gauge are the only ones that work. the oil pressure guage is INOP so it the fuel gauge (I think its a sending unit on both) the tach jumps all over the place and the speedo reads way off. other than that the brakes need to be changed, and new battery terminals and a few new bulbs here and there its all complete. The Air conditioning was eleminated so would I still need that part? the biggest concern is the dash cluster. do you think new sending units would fix that problem or is it the dash being off another model?? the other problem is the tach, what would make it jump all over the place like that?
thanks for the help guys the wife hates me on the internet all the time but I find alot of use full info on here.
