get rid of trac/panhard bar?

Obviously a noob. My friend's jeep has a trac bar in the rear that he took off to get better flex in the rear and did disconnects for the front sway bar. Do I have a trac bar or is it called something else? I saw some thing about a panhard bar or something, what's that? So can I safely drop my rear what-ever-you-call-it bar and gain more flex in the rear? Thanks!

The panhard bar locates the rear axle on newer 4Runners. Without it, you'd be all over the place.

So, no... panhard can not be removed on your 4Runner. But front and rear sway bars can (or disconnects) which some feel will increase your flex.

There was thread about this somewhere, but I don't know what happened to it. The last time I checked it the conclusion was that the rear upper links are triangulated but probably not enough to locate the rear end side to side.

I'll see if I can find the thread.

*Edit*

Here's the thread

so this is where the confusion sets in. so there are two bars? a panhard and a sway? where would I find something to help me locate and remove the rear sway bar on my 94?

The (anti-)sway bar has two vertical end links that connect it between the axle and frame. The end links will have rubber bushings on one end and probably a ball joint type fitting on the other end. Easy disconnect tip is to just unbolt the end with the rubber bushings and tie the end link out of the way. See if it makes any difference on and off road:

On the 2nd gen 4Runner, there is typically a sway bar on the front AND rear axle. The above description would apply to either bar.
