truck bed seat (legal or not?)

i was wondering if it is legal or illegal to have a bench seat in the bed of a pickup in california? thanks.

It's illegal under California law for anyone to ride in the bed of a pickup (on streets / highways) unless they're secured with a restraint meeting federal requirements ...

i planned on doing this and the way u would have to do it or i was told was the seatbelts and seat have to be secured to the frame. but i would talk to the dmv, a chp told me that
