Gears ?????
Looking for some help and information about gears i have a 87 xcab 22re 4x4 i recently put on 31 inch tires and snuggles in the power department so i been looking around here and it seems like the cheapest way to get what i need is to pickup a used 3rd member with the gears i need in it already but im not sure what i am looking for as in what size gears i should go with and what would be a doner truck for me to look for and how difficult of a job to put in the 3rd memeber is any info would be great

If you think you will stay with 31's you should get 4.56 gears. You have to find a 92-95 pickup of 4runner that came with the 31" tire package and manual tranny. Or you could surf craigslist.com and the classifieds on this site, third members with this gear ration in them float around every once in a while.

I'm running 31"s and it really does not see all that terrible. Have you done the basic tuneup? I can see 33's slowing you down some and re-gear from there. I'm not sure of my gearing though, I know it's stock but I don't know what they are. I have not had this thing all that long. This might be dumb...how can I tell what gears I have?

find some 4.88's. Any 92-95 4wd pickup or 4runner with a 3vze, auto and factory 31" tires will have them. direct bolt in except for the companion flange (pinion flange) will have to be redrilled for your 4cyl d-shaft pattern.
This way you will have some extra pep with 31's and you're set for 33's.

i just checked the code and as far as i can tell its had 4.300 stock it is an auto i dont no if that the reason my brother in law has a 93 5 speed with the same tires but has much more power so im guessin he has the 4.56 gears

I'm thinking his feels more powerful because it's a 5 speed, not because of different gearing. The only way he'd have different gears is if his came with 31's stock. My buddy's 5 speed w/31's and 4.10's feels just fine as far as power goes, lot better than mine on 33's and 4:88's (gear it all you want, bigger tires make it slower).
