hey guys im new to the forum as of today. And i've got a couple of questions,i just bougt my first toyota truck 3 days ago, for 1k, (needed clutch and slave cylinder), i know that my truck has all stock gears and it has 32s on it now and im going to step up to 33s in about a month, and from what i have gathered from this thread i should run 4.88s to compensate, right? Other question.... I just so happen to own and 84 supra and i have an 82 parts car, my diff in it has a 7.5'' ring gear, it came out with 4.30s and my 82 has 3.73s which im currently running, but i bought a set of 4.88s to put in it (loved them, qiuck as hell!) but had to take them out bc of no topend anymore. anyway the 4.88s are bolted to my stock supra LSD that is still very tight, so could i buy another set of 4.88s and just swap my lsd into the truck housing? or would a true locker be the better wat to go? i plan to have it in some mud so would that be ok for what i do with it? thanks sorry its so long!

u need 2 third members with gears! unless u want to be in 2wd the whole time. get 4.88s cause if u want to get 33s or maybe a bit bigger u will want 4.88s. u will still be able to go 70+ on the freeway

you need to match the front gears (third member) with the rear gears or the drive train will bind up or BREAK something

oh well i knew that i was just saying i would take the 4.88 w/LSD swap out the rear and get another set of 4.88s for the front. my biggest question was: will my supra LSD fit in the trucks rear housing? And how much of a pain in the ass is it to do my supra was easy but i've never been into the trucks. The ppl that do that stuff around here want $650 for another set of gears and the install for both, thats why I ask.

just so everyone knows the LSD out of a MKII supra will not work in a 1992 truck the supra has a 7.5'' ring gear and the truck has a 8'' ring gear so the spools aren't the same size. I found that out yesterday

Did you find a place to regear your whole truck for $665 or am I reading this thread wrong? The reason I ask is I'm wanting to get mine done and the place in my town says $1200! I have an '86 4WD 22r 5spd that is in dire need of more power!!!

1200 is too high. you could buy new 3rds with gears in them for that.

Yep... you read that right the highest in town for me was 700 to do it and buy another set of gears, I must agree $1200 is way too much... I also found out quite a while ago that my supra lsd wont fit in the rear nor ring and pinoin bc my car is only a 7.5'' gear and the truck has a 8'' gear in the rear but i think it will fitin the front but i just dont have the time to pull them from the diff to find out one of these days i will have enough cash to do so but the supra will proly be first on the fixin list

Wow! I don't know anything about gears but if I buy an assembled third member does that cover all the parts I need? LC engineering sells assembled third members w/gears & spool for $600 and ones with Detriot locker for $950. Does that cover front and back or do I need 2 of them?

I can only find one place in my town to do the regear and they seem to be stuck on $1200! Any suggestions on what types of places to call for estimates? I'm not located far from Madison, I'm a little west of you in southern Indiana. Heck, it might be cheaper for me to drive over there and get it done? Where did you end up getting it done?
