gearing question

gearing question

i have a 1990 4runner with the 3.4 swap. im not sure what gearing i have stock but i was thinking of going to the 3.90 that the tacomas have stock. im running 31'' and i doubt ill ever lift it im just looking for better mileage. can i put the stock tacoma gears in my 4runner diffs

Yes on the rear. Front, only if you can find a 2WD or a 3:90 gear..

(Tacomas IFS's are High Pinion 7.5". High Pinion = Reverse Rotation)

IMO, FARRRR more cheaper to install a rubber overdrive...

4:10 = 28
4:00 = 29
3:90 = 30

etc... Some, not all 4Runners came with 4:10's, I have a 94 that's AT and 4:57 gears. 4:30's are not uncommon. And factory 31's were 4:88

Not exact, but close enough...

Also doesn't help tires are not exact to what they claim.

no and no.. Tacoma's rear and front are a different all together.

ha ha! I fell in that same trap! And did it again!


4Runner to 4Runner rears are the same... Fronts, no.

4Runner to Taco (ex, E locker), is not...
