fuse keeps popping, I need help..

I bought my 88' 4Runner 4x4 4cyl 5 speed 2 days ago. It has been running smooth. Until last night...

Symptoms
Charge Light stays on
Temp and Gas gauges quit working but the back lighting on them do.
No blinkers. either.

chased it down to the 15 amp fuse (eng) replaced it 2 times but keeps popping immediately. I need help and need to get this fixed. Autozone says my battery is good. they did not check my alternator because previous owner put a new one in 3 weeks ago.

Have you checked to see if there is a short anywhere along the wire cluster going to the gauges? If its shorting out anywhere, then it could be blowing fuses. I had that problem on my caddillac when I still had it. Kept blowing a fuel injector fuse..

If your fuse instantly blows you have a short to ground somewhere in that circuit. This can be difficult to locate. You need a voltmeter and wiring diagram to check the positive leads in that circuit for continuity to ground, once you locate the culprit trace it back to the fuse box to find short or replace it with a new wire.

Check If Wire to Backup Light Switch Shorts to Tranny

Blown Eng fuse will lead to charge light because it provides excitation current to alternator.

For this to happen all of a sudden, I'm just wondering if something got wet and is causing a short.

I just bought the rig two days ago, turns out the three week old alternator was bad. replaced it and the u joint. no more issues as of yet. Tomorrow I will be doing an alignment and installing 31x10.5x15's on it.
