Front turn signal connector, will an 89+ work on an 88?

Hello,

I just got an 88 2wd pickup, and both front turn signals (on the bumper) are missing. The connectors are still there, so I just need need new light assemblies. I found some that look like they would fit, but I can't find any pictures of the connector on them. My truck has a round connector that's about .75" in diameter, 2 leads. The product page says they fit 89-94 trucks only. Do they use the same connector?

Here's the product page:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0038B7GS2 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0038B7GS2

Thanks

From the Toyota Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) it appears P/N 81510-89130 (right hand side) and 81520-89130 (left hand side) was used for production dates May 1984 - March 1989. What you are looking at may not work.

There is a Toyota P/N change in August 1988 so you may need to use your VIN # to properly ID what Toyota P/N you need for cross reference purposes.

See here and here. You may need to change your vehicle specs if I missed them.

And, welcome to the board!

Cool, thanks! I'll order those replacement assemblies.

Thanks for your welcome, I really like this board. It seems like 80%+ of all google searches end up here, so I figured this was the best board to join!

Wait!! What I'm saying is the ones you want to order may not work. I don't know for certain.

One of the guys with your vintage of rig will likely chime in sometime soon.

Hmm, looking at that site it looks like the 81520-89130 assembly is listed for 88, 89, and 90. Those lamps on Amazon are 20-40$ cheaper than anything else I can find, so worst case I can solder an appropriate connector on there. It would fit the PO's theme for the truck nicely.

Just use any two conductor water proof plug

Unless your building a show truck.

Just please no wire nuts

The connector I have uses 2 recessed female spade terminals. I can hack something together with male spades and ample electrical tape. Saving 30 bucks on the lights is worth it being rednecked.

Well, the Amazon turn signal "assemblies" didn't come with the bulb holders so I don't have anything to work with. It's just the lens and the housing. Kinda miffed about that but I did save a solid 30 bucks that I can put to something else. Thanks again for all the help.

The lense is bigger then what you have if I recall right. They changed sizes in between those years. Just found the post. You are doing to need an 84-88.

This is absolutely correct. I just got them in last night, and the housing is indeed about a half inch wider than the slot in the bumper. I did some truly shameful things with zipties, and they're installed. The PO had smashed up the bumper so much that there's not a single straight line anywhere past the front wheel wells. So, it's not like I butchered a show truck.

Thanks again everyone for the help!
