Cool Front Axle Help

Hey guys got a problem. Ok here the thing with it jacked up like that I cant turn the member with my hand it is locked in but when I put my locking hub on I have to get a crow bar or put the tire on and turn it that way but its kinda hard. cant remember if it was like this before. I took the top and bottom off and it frees up and they are covered with grease but every time I tighten them up it locks it up. It's strange.

The top and bottom I am talking about is on the knuckle that has the bearings in. It's like when I start tightening the bolts down it locks in. They have plenty of grease.

What axle are you talking about? Are your brakes sticking? Did it lock up? Something broke?

Also had a hard time following your post. Is your steering hard? or turning the axle shaft hard?

The steering is good. It's turning the wheels free handed. As in if the wheels were not locked it turns with my pinkie but when I lock the hubs it's really hard to turn the tires as like it's rolling down the street.

I think I get it. The wheels/hubs are hard to rotate when the hubs are locked in, but turn fine with them unlocked, correct? The trunions shouldn't affect how the axle spins (I think thats the part you said you loosened?) which makes me think the axle may be bent. Is the driveshaft still in place when you are trying to spin it by hand? Locker in the front end? (not to be confused with locking hubs)? Can we get some pictures? Have you taken the hubs/ axle shafts/ third member out to further inspect?

Yes you are right. No drive shift is off. I have taken the passenger axle out. It's not bent or anything. I can put my hand on the flange of the member and it will turn. I have the spiders welded. But you know the top and bottom of the knuckle there is bearings. When I tighten them down it locks up.

Well, that's what's supposed to happen. Are you shimming them to the proper preload? If not it will be very hard to turn them.

Tightening the trunions down should not make the wheel harder to spin...Both sides like that? If it was my truck, Id pull the knuckles/3rd and check everything over.
