flywheel removal

How do I loosen the bolts holding the flywheel on without the whole flywheel spinning? Is there a better way than jamming a screwdriver in the teeth?

I use two breaker bars one loosening the bolt and one to hold it from spinning by pushing against one breaker bar loosening it and pushing the other in the tightening position (they will break loose before they start to tighten another) this method will leave you with one left :/

You can actually buy a tool for holding the flywheel. Like mentioned above, use a breaker bar at the same time. Once you get two loose, you can run them out far enough and use the breaker bar in between two bolts to hold it while removing the others.

A fly wheel holder is one of those tools unless your changing fly wheels often sort of just lives in the tool box .

Then when you do need to use it then it hides because it is to comfortable.

^^^ LOL ^^^ You have no idea how true for that statement is for me. I will trip over a tool 50 times until I actually need it and then it hides.

I used an impact wrench to get them off. But when putting it all back together I used a 3 foot long piece of 1.5" wide 1/8" thick steel strap between the dowel pins to hold it when torqueing the bolts.
