So I'm doing a solid axle swap on my 87 pickup with an 84 front axle. I'm going to make my own u bolt plates, but I'm not sure what size bolts I need. I'm using my rear leafs up front so could I use 3" ID bolts or do they need to be 3 1/8" ID. Also am I correct that one side uses round bolts and the other side uses square bolts? I'm also putting chevy springs out back so should I use 3" ID bolts for them? Any info is appreciated. thank you!

There is a lot of things you have to consider beside that. A tape measure in your hands is the best way to determine what the dimensions are you need. you have the housing in hand.

google is your friend

shackle in the rear or front?

Got the money for expensive hi-steer stuff or make your own "basic cross-over" for almost free?

You already have an IFS steering box in place so half the battle is won.

Thanks for info Zuk. I was planning on measuring later, but I'm at college right now and the axle is up home. I just wasn't sure if anybody knew whether 3" u bolts would fit over the axle housing or whether it had to be the 3 3/8" u bolts that the flip kits come with.

I was planning on making a crossover steering like on your rigs with the Y arm. I should have everything i need for it except i still need to order the draglink and rod ends.
