flashing 4wd lights fixed!
Hello
After going to war with my 01 4runners flashing 4wd light problem I thought I would post this incase it might help someone out.
Symptom: Transfer case actuator didnt seem to respond to pressing the button on the dash. Actuator worked intermittenly at best.
Solution: Brushes and commutator on actuator motor were dirty. Cleaned them up with some brake cleaner and now 4wd system works perfectly!
Can remove plastic motor housing from actuator without unbolting the whole thing from t-case. Might be able to remove the metal motor cover only if can slide some skinny needle nose pliers under it to hold the shaft before it pulls the rotor/shaft out with the cover. Be careful not to damage brushes & brush springs or lose the tiny steel balls on the end of the rotor shaft. Hold brushes & springs back with thread to put together if need to.
