1991 Pickup downstream o2 bypass?

Hi there,

A month ago my exhaust split in half as the rust chewed the connection to the downstream o2 sensor in my 1991 Pickup, 22R-E 5 Speed single cab.

When i bought it used it came already without CAT converter and the sensor was attached to the exhaust, into the straight pipe before the muffler.

So i had the exhaust done (i went to National Budget Muffler) and since i live in MD, that truck is considered historic hence no emission or inspection required.

Since my o2 sensor has been hanging off the truck by the wire now i have the CEL always on.

I was looking for any solution to bypass it and kill the CEL. I don't want to buy a CAT converter since i don't need it (again, no emissions required).

Anyone who can help with ideas/solution would be much appreciated, thank you!

I am sure you understand what the ECU needs to see to keep the cel off.

Just build a board to send that signal to the ECU that it is looking for

I was looking through some possibilities and i came across

Could something like this apply to my truck? Is it a universal fix?

Mind that I'll have to tuck the sensor somewhere in the undercarriage since i have nowhere to screw it into, should i drill a hole (and thread it) into the exhaust pipe and screw the sensor in it?

Without a Cat it would be kind of useless to install a O2 sensor in your exhaust with that year engine and ECU.

But you can buy the weld on O2 sensor bungs several places online if you want to do that.

Heck put a used Cat on and fix it like it should be.

A new one runs for $600 more or less.
I tried many times to look for parts at my local junkyards but Toyota trucks and 4Runners disappear as soon as they come in, people are definitely looking for those. It appeared my easy solution would be a new one. NOPE.

I would keep it if i had a working one already installed, i'm not against them, i would just buy a new sensor and no questions asked. They just cost too much and since i don't need it where i live (emissions exempt for old vehicle) i don't see the point to having to look and spend more for nothing.

I'll keep looking if that be, thank you anyway.
