Exhaust hitting shock

I have a 82 truck and when I replaced my shocks I noticed the exhaust had melted the rubber shock boot. I'm not sure if there is supposed to be a heat shield or if my exhaust is ran wrong. Any info is appreciated.

too many variables to give straight answer, pics would help significantly. very likely that someone's changed something on your truck over the past 30yrs - or the exhaust may have shifted because it was hit/bent or the rubber hangers are worn or the less likely, someone changed your shock mounts without redoing the exhaust. i would first look at the exhaust and see if you can slightly move it over by bending your exhaust hanger brackets. there are no heat shields between the exhaust and shocks. if all fails, i'd say change up the exhaust and possibly upgrade it for a little more seat of the pants power gain.

good luck and welcome to YT!

You should be able to pull your exhaust away from the shock then factory shocks never had boots
