See if there are any stored trouble codes in the ECU:

a.k.a. Engine Computer or Electronic Control Unit, check codes per the link I posted earlier.

Probably running lean. O2 sensor, weak fuel pump, air/vacuum leak, timing issue, are a start. Put a vacuum gage on it when hot and at idle. Look for 18-20 steady inches of vacuum. That's a healthy motor. Filthy injectors are possible and a couple of cans of Berrymans injector cleaner will eliminate that concern. Any codes stored in the computer should be investigated immediately.

Hello. I have the exact same issue. Not to steal the forum at all, but maybe I can increase the importance of this thread. I have an 88 pickup and under heavy acceleration it will hesitate (or buck). If I am on the freeway I cannot go over about 65mph because it will hesitate. I have been told that it is probably a fuel problem. This is what I have done so far:

Changed the O2 Sensor
Checked all the spark plugs
Checked all the plug wires with an OHM gauge
Checked the EGR as the Chilton's manual instructs
Changed the fuel filter

I still have the problem. Any more advice would be great!

Could try adding some gauges to see what is going on. I run an air/fuel gauge to see what the O2 sensor is up to and a fuel pressure gauge to monitor the fuel pressure while driving:

I fixed it

Just to follow up. I just changed my cap and rotor and my problems went away... Should have done that sooner...
