Question EGR Sensor

Hey community, quick question here. Recently my EGR was brand new replaced, after that i noticed one of the EGR sensor wires (just before the clip) broke off while i was on the highway and the check engine light came on. I read the code and it was my sensor. So i unpluged my battery and reset it. Afterwards i went to the scrap yard and found the exact same clip on a corolla. I took it and took off my old clip (one wire attached) and solder the two wires and cliped it back together. As there was no difference driving without the sensor as now with my new clip attached, when i unpug the sensor the check engine light does not come on. I know my new sensor is the exact same, and properly solder to the old wires. Why wont my check engine light on come on? and why is there almost no difference in the running of the motor plugged together or not?
