E-Brake Light

My 99 Tacoma's e-brake light won't go off. I've tried pushing the handle all the way in, pushing the swith with my finger, and unplugging it all together. Anybody had this problem? What can I do short of spicing the wires together? I am tired of looking at that red light!

x3. Had a similar problem in my 93 4Runner. It only came on when I shifted from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th. Brake fluid was at perfect level. Replaced the brake pads and it went away... Kind of odd to me.

the e-brake light isnt just a warning that your e-brake is on, its also a warning light for your regular brake system, so most likely you have a minor problem in your brake system, not your e-brake.

If it is low brake fluid in the M/C, then you should check for pad/shoe wear on all four corners. The fluid level in the M/C is calibrated so that when the pads/shoes start to wear down to the almost gone condition, the fluid level will drop low enough to trip a sensor which turns on the dash light. That's why you shouldn't 'top off' brake fluid as the level drops, otherwise the sensor might not go off, and you could be replacing a lot more that pads/shoes if they wear out.

my 94 had this problem.... would go off if i pushed the e-brake all the way in but would come back on after awhile.

the only problem that it caused me was that my cruiser would cut off when the light would come back on

i asked toyota and they said it was a common problem and easy to fix, they did it for free......... image that

i dont know what they did but you could ask the stealership
