door frame cracked - how to fix?

I have a 88 4wd pickup. The PO had bondo'ed and painted over a crack that I now see opening up right in the middle of the door frame. I need to take a pict but it's not the truck frame, it's the part that runs horizontal on the bottom between the hinge and lock latch. Not sure if that is called the sill plate or not.

Any ideas on the best way to fix? Cut it out and tack a replacement in maybe?

Might be the reason the door is hard to close up.

I am pretty handy with a stick and MIG welder, have a gas one but I'm a butcher with that thing.

Any help or suggestions would be great - Thanks

Take a picture!!

If you can see the whole length of the crack drill both ends so it will not grow .

I would just weld it up and you should be good .

The sill plate is the part right inside the door above the rocker panel.

It is underneath the door when it is closed.

Ok then it is the rocker panel that is cracked - looks like the crack runs vertically across the rocker panel - working on a picture.

That is just a slight more than a crack!!

If it was me at this time I would take out the seat and the carpet and see just what you have.

It looks like you could have a lot more than what is seen that break could go all the way to the trans tunnel.

Yes that is why the door closes so hard.

Once you figure just what all needs to be repaired You will need to get the door opening back to as close as possible to the original size or you will always have closing problems

Maybe a piece out of a parted out truck to overlap the bad area by several inches. Hard to call without seeing the rest.

What kind of shape is the frame in??

Is The cab sitting on the ground or does it just look that way??

I have not gone over the entire frame but the parts I have checked are rusty but solid for an Illinois truck. The pict is of the cab on the truck, just looks like it's on the ground in that shot.

planning on taking the seat/carpet out to see whats going on with the cab. It's hard to find any parts for Toy's in this area so I might have to be fabbing something up the hard way.
