Dies after a second
Hey guys, tried to find some info on this and couldn't. I am having an intermittent problem with my 88 4Runner 3.0 where it does not want to stay running. It can happen when it is cold or at operating temp and can happen at any time. There really isn't a reason to the problem it seems.
When I crank it it will idle for a second or two and die, you can recrank it and it will do the same thing or not run at all. Sometimes you can crank it and hold the gas to the floor and it will run extremely choppy. During this time it does not rev freely but will rev to 3k and hold there, no power it seems, almost seems to have a knock. If you rev it up to 5k once or twice (when the rpms will finally move that high after a minute or so) the issue clears up and it runs like a champ till the next episode.
No rhyme or reason to when this will occur, every other time it starts as soon as you turn the key and doesn't miss a beat.
Any suggestions on what to start checking? Has a new coil and ignitor and had this problem before they were changed out.
