Deckpate mod question (leaving it open)

I am going to do the deckplate mod soon, but i don't know when i should leave the air box open with the new hole.

Do most people just leave it open all the time? Or just when they are off road? Just when they are on road?

Is it safe to leave off all the time?

onroad driving is fine and offroad is fine to aslong as you dont plan on crosssing a river i have had mine opened from months and it rained hard a few times and no problems i would reccomend you installed a screen behind the deckplate i have notice theres bugs and stuff that get in up there

Only time I close it, is when Im going to get my truck smogged.

You'll want to close it if you plan on doing some water crossings though,.

I leave mine open 100% of the time when highway driving no matter what the season.

IMO the elbow mod is better. Too many people with a deckplate complain about dirty air filters, including MAF sensors and thottle bodies.
