Cylinder Head Cover gasket replacement

Hello Friends,

I'm planning on replacing the valve cover gaskets (i think they're the same thing as "cylinder head cover gaskets" but I could be wrong) and want to know if there's anything else I should do while I'm in there. Honestly, I'm not even sure if there is anything else to do, but they're leaking, and I want to fix them.

I've searched, and couldn't find anything. FSM says to torque the bolts to 48 in lbf, is there anything else that I should be aware of?

New gaskets are $15 ea at Toyota.

Thanks for the input!

You are gonna need to remove the throttle body and upper intake manifold to get at the passenger side valve cover. Make sure you get the gaskets for them. Replace your PVC valve at that time, its nearly impossible to get at when fully assembled.

Mark all your vacuum lines VERY well..

Ok, so I have to remove the intake plenum? Is that a difficult process?

Anything else I should know? If I go to Toyota and tell them what I'm doing, will they know what gaskets I need, or does anyone have part # etc?

Thanks again for your help!

Don't expect the dude at the parts desk to know squat, they usually don't know anything but how to look up diagrams on the computer then try and sell you the wrong parts.

Best you can do is tell them (describe) to them what gaskets you need then ask to see the screen (diagrams they're looking at) to identify it yourself. I've had to do this almost everytime I've ordered a part.

Jason191919119191991 .... weird just noticed has 666 posts.. maybe its my lucky day.

Ha! I'm still a couple of weeks away. The nearest dealer is about 2 hours away, and i'm going to need another gasket/shims.
