Charge/Check Engine Light

So earlier today I was trying to jump start my lawn mower with the Ol' Yota. And I tried forever put the yota just couldn't produce enough power to boost it I guess. I also touched the hot booster cable to my starter on the mower just to see if I cold boost it like that but no nice. So I turned off my engine and went inside. After a few hours I got in my truck and started the engine, it started just fine but the idle was very high and I kind of smelled like a burning wire under the hood and my charge/check engine light were on. Both belts are still in there. I checked all the battery wires and my alt. wire and everything seemed fine. I think either I just really drained the battery and engine is maybe idling high to try to charge the battery back up or I messed my alt. up. Or possibly damaged both. And thoughts? Thanks Jeff

x2 on fuses and that may lead to the source of the burning wire smell. The smell may have came from the internals of the alternator.

Go to the local autoparts store and get the CEL scanned.

There was one blown fuse under the hood. I replaced it but didnt see any change. My truck is too old to be scanned.

Oh and my emergency brake like is on, on the dash.

Oops, I missed the '86 when I mentioned scanning. Anyhow, the codes can still be read as a series of blinking lights. Check out the FSM.

Haha, I did make it read like the FSM was some part under the hood. Good luck tracking down the issues.
