A/C won't stay cold, any ideas why?

I have an 87' xtracab 22re, I've been fighting the ac in my truck for a couple of months now, we recharged the system with freeon the other day, and it got cool. Then the next morning I went out and got in my truck, and it was blowing regular old air, same temp as outside my cab. I suppose I have a leak somewhere, but I have no idea how to check for one or find it if that's what it is. Any help is appriciated.

Lots of places will do an inspection for like $30. There is probably a way to do it yourself, but I don't know how, so someone else will have to chime in.

When was it blowing warm air? At idle or while driving? If at idle, it may be the A/C amplifier low RPM cutout adjustment (above/behind glove box) or the A/C idle up valve not kicking in. Check those first:

It's blowing warm constantly, wheather pulling Air form outside, which is what I normally do in the summer, or resiculating the air in the cabin.

And thanks, I'll have to check them next chance I get.

could be a bad compressor, or its leaking out the r134a, check the condenser, it may be rotted through, or the o-rings may not be making a good seal

Laughin, idk, I have an automatic, it shifts the same as it always has I reckon , no harder no softer.

Gijunk, i don't use r134, i'm still using 12 I belive it was, and the compressors good, and the o rings seem to be good, i'll check em closer later.

i think your AC coldness regulator might be bad.

This question has come up to many times lately, search, contribute to other threads, and if you have a super unique case then maybe post?

If you have a leak, the best thing to do would to put dye in it and see. But being an R12 system you can't do that and you're forced to take it to a shop.

im not an ac expert, none of my vehicles have ac, but do you guys think that maybe there is a clogged hose restricting the flow of freon to the condenser?

Yeah, I noticed that it seemed to be popping up alot here lately, prolly cause of all the super hot days the past few weeks. I think that if it isn't the regulator, then I'll have to take it to a shop, but once I figure it out I'll be sure to mention what it was on here.and hopefully by then I'll be able to work the forums here at yotatech a lil better and maybe help someone else.

if you already have the stuff toadd freom 134a just get some of the leak detector dye and add it to the system get the infered pen light so you can see where it leaks from. it works really great. a pack of new orings is liken $6 if thatas all it it. you should have a guage you can put on your hose(even the cheap ones) thats all i have and i have never had any issues. you can also get a can of freon with oil, moisture remover cold additive if you have to open the system. I just did my toyota from R12 to 134. i had a few orings leaking. put new orings and freon its good and cold now even on 100 degree plus days. it would get warm every few weeks , i found a slow leak on my shrader valve where i was adding freon

About $4 worth of orings. a can of freon with oil, freon, chill, and moisture remover. if you get the dye and a light to check for leaks, prolly around $50 for everything.
