Here in Laredo Texas the temperature will remain over 100* for 3 months straight so using my air conditioner is a must, especially when driving around with friends because i can be a little bit self-conscious about my vehicle.
My engine experiences power loss with the soaring temperatures alone yet when i turn on my a/c, my rpms will drop by almost 500 and i find myself having to push harder on the throttle.

what can i do to beat the heat?
what can i do to utilize the a/c to its fullest and still have power in the engine, enough to keep up with traffic?

i ordered a high output alternator (130amps, 10-15 over stock at idle)
and i ordered both O2 sensors (denso)
i will also be putting new spark plugs (denso)

There's no way to avoid power loss when turning on your AC. The AC takes alot of power to run since it's pretty much compressing air and letting it out to create cool air.

 

yup... theres no way to combat it without doin something far out, like installing an electric compressor to run the AC, but then you'll just put a load on your alt... so it may be close to a wash.

Basically it comes down to the fact that you don't get something for nothing. It takes horsepower to run the compressor. Like the others have said there is no way around it. Aside from an engine swap of course.

 

keeping the air conditioner maintained will help a little. keep the condenser clean ,fins straight also keep the freon level at recommended levels. this will make it work more efficiently. also sound deadening/insulation in the cab can help also.
