Ok, got the '92 motor in the '90 4 runner, distributors were diffferent, and the plug on the knock sensor is different, on the back of the intake is a bank of connections that was different, but comes off with 2 bolts, so got that swapped over also. Hope to have the swap complete tomorrow, and see if this thing will run. fingers crossed. Its alot of work!

Project complete, drove it home yesterday, runs like a top, other than when its cold it revs really high (1500-2000) until it warms up.

Nice work! I hope you saved those hubs. They will swap over. And they will save you wear on your cv axles, as well as a fabled 1mpg worth of drivetrain drag.

Btw, I picked up the r150f out of granite falls. I appreciate the pm's.

Thanks! Ok no problems, eventually someone will need one. Ill relist on CL now that I know my trans and tcase works in my runner.

Yep, hubs will go on, do you know if the E brake cable off a '92 pickup will work on a '90 4runner?

Now just have to work on the details.

Pretty sure your e-brake cable is different. The pickups have the same e brake cable as the 86-89 4runners, and the pickups all the back to 86, if not older. I haven't been around any rigs older then 85 to verify those.

Ahhh ok, good luck! Engine I put in had a brand new clutch (1 week old), good thing, the old bearing in the back of the crank on the origional motor was missing a few balls and the seal!

More yota pics, this thing is cherry for so many miles...

thanks man. woah, that is cherry for that many miles. score!
i've done quite a few of them, so as long as the bolts aren't all rusted to the threads, then i should be able to do it in a few hours. gonna be harder without a lift though.
and trail-gear sells aisin clutch's for like $160 too so it won't even be that expensive. whoo hoo!!!

honestly, it seems like it has 100k and someone put a different guage cluster in, driver seat doesnt even have any wear on it, nor does the steering wheel, it just doesnt make sense. I want to flip 500k on it! wish it had the origional motor though, be cooler, it ran great up until two weeks ago he said though, just needs HG's yet!

put almost 100 miles on it this week, getting new tires and an alignment next week, so far so good. Its weird driving such a small rig around, but kinda fun!

Ok, put over 300 miles on it now, everything working great, having fun driving it around! Getting 16mpg on the first tank full, just have to figure out how to adjust the cold idle lower, it drives me a little crazy until it warms up and idles lower.

The parts truck has paid itself off and then some, and I have alot of parts to sell yet, so all great advice and so far working out great!

I kept the origional engine laying around, incase the running one has an issue Ill rebuild it and put it back in there.

Just an update if anyone was following yet. Im on the hunt for new tires, the 16" rim makes it a pain to find used tires, so I may have to buy a set of used wheels and tires....

i just did the hg's on the 3.0. Did everything myself besides machining the heads, and got parts at cost. Still cost a grand to do everything you should be doing if it has a lot of kms. all the pulleys, water pump, tensioner, headbolts, and of course you'll be replacing all the gaskets like egr valve, throttle body, valve seals etc. its a big so u might as well go big. do everything right and take ur time u should end up with basically a brand new engine.
