I went are read your post, just wondering why you want to replace knock sensor? If nothing else I would get one out of a boneyard or a used one. The wire is generally the biggest problem in my opinion.

hey, i live in bham and recently replaced the hg on one of these, shoot me a pm if you need help with anything, it's a pain but if you're methodical and label everything, not all that bad in the end, also before you order part have a look at engnbldrs stuff
http://engnbldr.com/toyota_30_v6.htm
used them twice now and they were great. helpful service, good prices, fast shipping, 2 sets from them so far for different motors, best of luck with the project

Tad, money is an object, and I cant afford to keep buying rigs as donors, this is a pretty cheap fix.

Terry, everyone says to that Ive read, so I was wondering

POTA, thanks! Im really good mechanically so I dont think itll be too hard, but they all have their little things that kick your butt.

Ill look into those parts. Thanks! Do you know what brand they are?

Try Deathcougar at nix 99. He can get members a little discount on parts. And he orders oem stuff for me all the time. he should be able to beat that dealer price. Worth a shot. Nix is in Lynnwood, but he lives up in Arlington.

I wouldnt replace the knock sensor my self. I had a 3.0 and really liked it. My 91 4Runner was a great truck. It came from up north and the rust just fianlly got to it so bad it was just beyond my ability to fix the body.

The 3.0 will go great distances. Try finding a low mileage motor, good luck. With some home work, you can keep your rebuild reasonably cheap and with the condition of your truck should pay off.

Here is a link to 8T8s build. They have alot of information that may help you and give you a heads up when getting to the different stages of your build.https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...thread-197690/

It looks like around $400 to do the HG job, even though the body and interior is perfect, it is a higher mileage rig. Guy was driving it right up until last week. Hope to rip it apart tomorrow to see exactly what the heck is going on in there, then Ill know what to order.

If I could find a low mile motor and put it in Id be happy, but they want too much money for a whole engine.

something doesnt sound right on the price for the headbolts from toyota. I think you have been miss quoted on price per bolt. other than that prices are decent.

Here is a curve ball, just found a '92 toyota pickup that was rolled, $500 I can have the whole rig, 218k miles, 3.0 in it that she said the previous owner did the headgaskets. Thoughts?

I know after taking what I want off it I can get $200 for the rest at the junkyard.

Get it, part it out, and swap the motor. You could end up getting the running motor for $0 investment, only labor hours involved. Go For It!

got them down to 400 now, said it ran a week ago until some guy was screwing around under the hood checking it out, it backfired, now just starts up then dies... But has full drivetrain yet too.

If you decide to get that parts rig and it has a 5 speed, PM me, I might need the r150f for my 3.4 swap. At this point I also need frame mounts for the motor as well. Keep us posted.

Today I pulled the engine out of it today, heard it run so excited to get the 4runner going. Talk about a pain though, I miss carburated cars, haha. All in all not bad though, took me about 3.5 hours to pull the 3.0 out of the donor rig. I figured not bad since never played with a toyota yet.

Probably finish the job this next weekend, hopefully.

Here is the easy way to move a rig

Engine out

Oh also, anyone know if the locking hubs off the '92 parts truck will work on my '90 4 runner?
